what does the technology used in biofilcer consist of?

BIOFILCER is a system formed by a ceramic filter with high surface and density, which is covered by a film of water-treatment organisms, through which the wastewater flows. While the organisms are growing, the film thickness increases, the deepest film enters into an endogenous growth phase, from which it loses its ability to adhere to the surface of the filling, so that the film is released and begins to grow a new one. The film is thus removed and washed away by the water flow, and it is collected on top. The system requires a co-current flow.

  • Biological Treatment: A 500 mm diameter Biofilter with a 2m height protective cover against terrain charges; a 1.5m height ceramic filling and ceramic membranes for oxygenation (optional).
  • Two GRP tanks of 1000 liters, one for decanting and system protection and the other one to storage the clean water.
  • Washing/Flushing automatic equipment comprising three solenoid controllers.
  • 1kW compressed air equipment with a 25l storage tank-
  • Measurement and control equipment. Pipes. Electrical panel and its connections.

Discharges generated by the food industry are characterized by a high biodegradable organic load, some moderate contents in suspended solids and little or no presence of toxic and / or hazardous pollutants.

Thanks to the innovative technique of ceramic biofiltration TECAMBYOT’s BIOFILCER, a new door is opened in the field of treatment of agrofood effluents, drastically reducing the pollutant loads from these wastewater and allowing they to be subsequently treated in a conventional wastewater treatment plant as a standard urban effluent, favoring so the compliance with the current European regulations for the effluents disposal.

A new technology for effluent treatment

The usual activated sludge technology suffers from high investment costs and some operational and maintenance difficulties, so that if there are temporarily some unfavorable conditions, the microbial medium located into the reactor loses all its properties, and it could even die.
An alternative to activated sludge systems are biological filters or biofilters, which uses natural processes for water treatment: Biofilters have proven to be an appropriate technology for treating domestic and food processing wastewater with a high organic load and they can guarantee that the quality of the discharged water is optimal.
Therefore, TECAMBYOT has decided to develop a highly innovative system of Biofiltration, BIOFILCER, used for the first time in the sector of ceramic materials.
